Dale Sanders with fellow River Angel Rob Warner...he came to the rescue!
“As we are packing out of camp an 80 year old guy comes up from a canoe to ask a couple questions. Turns out he's attempting to canoe the whole Mississippi River from the headwaters to the mouth in 80 days all for juvenile diabetes. He is known as Grey Beard Adventurer. Super cool guy!!”

On this Memorial Day 2015, I am thankful for good people in this world. This is a day I won’t soon forget.
When I pulled up to the river’s edge today, I was frantically looking for help. I needed to find a place to dry out and warm up. Thankfully, I caught one last family at the campground, who took me in and offered coffee while I waited for the rest of the team.
After we found respite in our primitive cabin, I got a phone call from fellow River Angel, Joe Simon. (Joe and Rob Warner stayed with me in Memphis last year when they did Source to Sea.) Surprisingly, he was at the riverbank with food and transportation to the laundry. We now have dry clothes and a warm bed to sleep in.
While at the Laundromat, we missed another fellow River Angel, Jim Beck, who stopped by with fried chicken and will be back tomorrow to say hi and check on us.
Once again, the River Angel network to the rescue! All’s well as we prepare to sleep, blessedly dry, on this wood bed for the night.
