Sartell Dam

After yesterday’s grueling portage, rain, and wet camping conditions, I figured that I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed this morning. Not so. Looks like my physical ability just took a leap forward.

I started paddling with vigor. Today, we will face two different portages, paddle through the Sauk Rapids, and attempt to make up the miles lost from yesterday. My adrenalin was flowing high, and the first leg of the river was fast with no wind. The portage at Sartell Dam was very different than yesterday’s escapades, and we were all looking forward to paddling the Sauk rapids.

As luck would have it, Alex Trigg and his buddy Cody Czeck saw me making my way around the portage and came to talk. Turns out, Alex’s brother is Adam Trigg from the Rediscover North America crew. With their help, I was able to paddle the rapids without any difficulties.

We also made it around the St. Cloud Dam without incident and completed the rest of our 32 mile journey downstream to a camp site at the River Bluffs Regional Park. We are at the “Rest Stop” with a great tent site.

To add to what was already a fantastic day, I was thrilled to see Alex and his parents greet us at the campsite with food and drinks. We all enjoyed their many stories and the laughs were just as welcomed as the cold beverages!
