Too  Hot  For  Sleep

It is now 1100. After paddling 50 miles today, I am lying here in my tent, “trying” to sleep. But it’s just too hot, and I’m wet with sweat. A light cool breeze is blowing, but not hard enough to penetrate the mesh on my tent. Tried opening the tent screens, but there are too many mosquitoes, even this late in the evening. To reach the water for a swim, I would have to walk down a road filled with slimy river mud that the receding waters left behind.  To avoid the mud, I would have to walk through a briar patch. Guess this is another fine Creative Camping site, but it was the best we could find. At least my tent is dry, mud free, and I have all I need for a good breakfast inside the tent. Only thing I need now is a strong, lightweight, efficient, battery-operated fan.

Life is good, though. I am relatively in good health. Pain free. I can eat most any foods and awake each day, feeling blessed and ready to tackle a new adventure.
Was able to take a couple of shortcuts today, and saved a few miles.  Austin and I also tried to paddle through the woods to reach the Bayou Baton Rouge but had to abort the attempt and return to the main river channel. Water was flowing fast, but there was just too much debris to safely paddle through. For those of you following on SPOT, you may have noticed it went off for a spell. Trees were too thick for the satellite signal to penetrate their canopies.
Hope all of you can share this website with your friends. Let's continue to spread the word. Somehow, someday, our efforts to raise awareness and spread the word about the need for a cure for Juvenile Diabetes will be heard.  And, once again, I want to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart, for all of the support thus far.

Every time I see a picture, a video, read one of GBA posts, I'm even more amazed and inspired by what you are accomplishing. It boggles my brain...keep on paddling on and reach your goal. The ripples you have started will continue on long after you reach the Gulf...how awesome is that!?!?!?
